Roland is a seasoned professional with a distinguished career in the energy sector, specializing in technical and commercial roles within the pipeline industry. Since branching into consulting in 2015, he has served as the Principal at enRG Consulting Services Inc. and a Partner at Envision Group, helping organizations bridge the gap between strategy and execution.
Roland’s career is built on a strong foundation of technical excellence and a passion for results. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (’84 Honours) from the University of Saskatchewan and has experienced the cyclical nature of Alberta’s energy industry firsthand. With limited opportunities in oil and gas upon graduation, Roland began his career in Calgary at Arthur Andersen and Company (now Accenture), working in their consulting practice. His early consulting projects took him across North America, including Chicago, Edmonton, and Vancouver, where he honed his skills in leadership, teamwork, and change management. During this time, he supported a diverse range of clients, including BC Hydro, Talisman Energy, Canterra Energy, TransAlta Utilities, Alberta Government Telephones (AGT), and Imperial Oil.
When the energy sector rebounded, Roland transitioned into the natural gas pipeline industry, joining the NOVA Corporation in 1990. He quickly became involved in transformative projects, volunteering to lead key business process restructuring initiatives. Drawing on his change management expertise, Roland helped drive innovation within NOVA’s pipeline engineering and planning departments. Following the merger of TransCanada Pipelines and NOVA, his deep knowledge of business processes and strategic planning propelled him into senior management roles overseeing Engineering, System Design, Planning, Forecasting, and Commercial operations.
In 2015, Roland established his consulting practice, quickly becoming a trusted advisor to former clients at TransCanada Pipelines (now TC Energy), who continue to rely on his expertise in the commercial and regulatory aspects of the natural gas business.
Beyond his professional life, Roland is deeply passionate about sports, particularly soccer and hockey, which he has played at the Master’s level in international tournaments. He and his wife, Brenda, have been married for 38 years and are proud parents to two children pursuing successful careers in medicine and mining engineering.
Throughout his career, Roland has been dedicated to fostering engagement and alignment within organizations. He specializes in building common visions and clear missions rooted in strong values, believing that sustainable business results emerge when teams are unified and understand the value of their journey. His approach emphasizes collaboration, purpose, and engagement at every level, ensuring lasting impact for the businesses and people he works with.
